About the project

This project, BHSOFT partnered with a Norwegian company focused on smart urban solutions to develop a cross-platform mobile app that leverages geo-tracking and GPS location technology. The app enables users to monitor their travel patterns, interact within localized zones, and earn rewards for sustainable commuting behavior.


As part of a broader smart city initiative, the app blends real-time mobility tracking with user engagement features like gamification and personalized insights. BHSOFT was entrusted with front-end development, ensuring a consistent and optimized user experience across Android and iOS.



The client required a mobile solution that could:

  • Accurately track and record user travel journeys in real-time
  • Reward users with bonus points based on journey characteristics such as distance, travel time, transportation method, and weather conditions
  • Analyze behavior patterns and generate personalized travel recommendations
  • Deliver gamified challenges (e.g., treasure hunts, competitions) to encourage long-term habit changes
  • Provide a polished, intuitive UI that offers a seamless experience across Android and iOS

The app needed to strike a balance between functionality, motivation, and usability—engaging users while promoting green transportation.

One of the primary challenges during development was handling platform-specific behavior and compatibility issues in a cross-platform environment. Features such as real-time geolocation tracking, background processing, and device-specific UI components needed fine-tuning across both Android and iOS platforms.


To ensure smooth functionality and a consistent user experience across devices, the BHSoft mobile team implemented the following strategies:

  • Cross-Platform Optimization: Used React Native with native modules and platform-specific adjustments to resolve compatibility issues.
  • Performance Debugging: Focused on identifying and fixing bugs related to background tracking and UI responsiveness.

  • Agile Development: Worked closely with the client under an Agile/Scrum methodology, allowing for flexibility, fast iteration, and tight collaboration through Skype-based communication.
