About the project

The project's main purpose is to convert plain 3D data files (.DAE, FBX) into 3D Tiles data. 3D Tiles allow users to access large datasets in smaller parts (tiles) that can be streamed smoothly and seamlessly on any device (from desktop to mobile).

With over 25 years of experience in 3D, VR, AR, BIM, VDC, visualization, and digitalization of planning, the client's focus is innovative solutions to streamline workflows and increase efficiency . They wanted to build a Proof of Concept demo for locating and displaying 3D data of a city at the right position on a 3D map in a web platform.

The customer's data was too large, so the system was slow in the beginning. To handle various data layers that belong to the same category, BHSoft needed to develop a plugin using 3DSMax.

The project was split into two parts:

The first part of the project:
Cesium was chosen to optimize model streaming and interaction (with each other). BHSoft used3D data handling techniques with the help of 3DSMax software to write plugins for managing data, peeling off 3D data layer by layer. We developed a file converter to convert data into a glTF file format, which enables smooth streaming using 3D Tiles. Users are able to view and monitor 3D models on maps and hide and show different 3D data layers, such as houses, streets, bridges, and street lamps.
The second part of the project:
BHSoft created a service to handle files when users upload LandXML files. Then we analyze and convert the data into glTF and 3D Tiles. After that, users are able to store these converted files in databases, ready to be streamed and displayed on Cesium.
